Using a dial to navigate on the screen felt like 2003 UX on some hybrid palm pilot/blackberry. Extremely dangerous for me

if you take the key fob out when it's running, the car starts a chime inside that is annoying

Principle
User control and freedom (Nielsen)
People report that passengers can't enter destinations, dial or type while the car moves, and that drivers can't even mute guidance or re-center the map, so they pull over instead.

A fix
Detect who is touching, for example through a passenger-side screen zone, seat occupancy with hand-direction sensing, or the passenger's paired phone, and keep lockouts only for long driver text entry. Never lock short actions like mute or re-center, and offer voice entry for destinations.
