Principle

User control and freedom

People report that following a tweet link, opening an image or reading a thread pushes them into a fullscreen login prompt, sometimes after long waits or blank pages, with no way to dismiss it and finish what they came to do.

A fix

Let logged-out visitors read the linked tweet, its full thread and its images, with the login prompt shown as a dismissible inline banner rather than a blocking modal. When content can't load, for example with cookies disabled, show a clear message within a few seconds explaining why, instead of a hanging or empty page.
