Principle

Consistency and standards (close means cancel)

People report that clicking X on the upgrade dialog was treated as consent and that there was no real decline option, which breaks the long-standing convention that closing a window cancels the action.

A fix

Make the close button always act as decline or postpone, and offer an explicit "No, don't upgrade" button with the same visual weight as accept. Require one clear affirmative action before any major upgrade starts, and show a confirmation the user can undo.
