Principle of least astonishment

People expect a search to return what they asked for, as every other search they use does. After a few real matches, YouTube fills the results with recommendations, Shorts and already-watched videos, which breaks that expectation and buries the video they were looking for.

A fix

Show every result that matches the query as one uninterrupted list. Move recommendations and Shorts into a clearly labelled, collapsible block after the matches, and add an 'exact matches only' filter, a sort by upload date with absolute dates, and search within a channel's video list.
